Sports Illustrated hall of shame

by Pastor Sal Termini

Sports Illustrated should be ashamed of themselves. The swimsuit issue is nothing but soft porn and maybe even more. We are sending a message to millions of boys women are sex objects to be leered at and lusted after. It seems it’s impossible to be true to anything good when greed is involved. The problem is executives know sex sells and have sold their souls to the devil and any one else’s who will listen to their sales pitches.

I remember being a young boy and reading Sports Illustrated. SI brought my sports heroes to life with stories and stats. I remember striking the poses of my favorite batters, pitchers, quarterbacks and athletes. The pictures brought my heroes home to my house and fueled my dreams of being an athlete. This was a noble theme coming from the pages of SI. I could not wait every month to receive my SI magazine.

They always had some great sports incentive to buy their magazine. They gave away baseballs, or pictures, something fun for a kid. A sad thing has happened SI moved to its most popular campaign ever, the swimsuit issue. It has probably given them more attention than ten marketing gimmicks and gifts. Yet I cannot help but be a little saddened. It seems for popularity, fame, and money people will do almost anything. Compromise is now the American dream. All our values are evaporating into thin air. Our TV shows are coarse, shallow and erotic. We value sex, money, power, and violence more than the great values that built this country.

A twelve year old boy brought the swimsuit edition to school and was suspended for 3 days. I have no doubt he was caught sharing his little secret with his buddies. The problem is it was probably acceptable in his home. He was suspended because the magazine was indecent material. Someone could have made this a free speech issue opening up the flood gates of indecent materials into our children’s lives. The sad thing is some people objected to the suspension. Maybe the parents should be suspended from being parents. What is wrong with parents today?

The point of a Newsday article was he was just being a 12 year old boy. In the realm of manhood maybe it’s a parent’s prerogative how a child should come to learn about the opposite sex. The smut merchants do a pretty good job of perverting our kids why use a famous sports magazine. The photographer, the models, the editors, the Madison Avenue people, the parents will all stand before God to answer for such terrible behavior. I guess goodness will eventually have its day but it’s awfully hard some times to wait it out while our young people are being inundated with filth at younger and younger ages. Jesus said, It would have been better to tie a milestone around ones neck and throw yourself into the sea and drown than lead one of these little ones astray.

A man who worked for NYC schools for twenty years said, The problem is the kids are out of control, undisciplined and unprepared for education. He shared that he believed the problem is not with George Bush’s school policy but parents who are as ridiculous in their immature behavior as their children. Our test scores are down and our schools systems are failing. They are failing because we put value in becoming an American idol over education. The teachers who are now accountable are also failing to meet the grade. Instead of bettering themselves many teachers are complaining they are not at fault. It seems we never learned anything from the book of Genesis just like Adam we want to blame someone else. We are failing to take responsibility for our actions in many areas in this country and the consequences if we are not careful will be fatal to our future and our young people.

I know don’t but it. You have the right to protest by not spending your money. Turn off your radio, turn off your TV. The problem is we are inundated. There is some entertainment that is wholesome but not much. Even movies and TV shows for kids are peppered with innuendo. The people responsible for all this immorality are creating an America that is more and more divided. It will be responsible to God for their actions. O I forgot, you don’t believe in God, the Bible, accountability, goodness and it’s all relative. When America self destructs I hope Americans will hold these people responsible. It begins with shop merchants, parents, teachers, and everyday people to fight the intellectual elite. Let’s protest and cause SI to rethink its policy. I ask millions of people to stop buying the swimsuit edition and sports illustrated. Let’s put the people involved in this out of business. If we don’t begin to act we will all suffer the consequences of America’s moral decline. Restore the foundations of America.
