The nature of Christianity
by Pastor Sal Termini

Christianity by nature teaches meekness and tolerance so it is an easy mark for the aggressive to attack those who believe its teachings. Many other world religions if disrespected in such a manner would respond with a violence and murder.
I believe one day there will be a clash between these violent religions and humanism because both are intolerant and in opposition to each others beliefs. At this momentous time in history political and religious intolerance have joined forces against Christianity. They have joined forces because Christianity liberates and frees people thus making them harder to dominate and control. The desire of Christians is to win people's hearts and wills by good behavior and truth. This is absent in many of the worlds religions as well as in humanism.
Atheistic nations and many religions around the world kill and destroy their own people who dissent. To God this is an unthinkable violation of other people’s beliefs and rights. Jesus never taught His disciples to kill those who don’t believe. He never led and army to war. He never slaughtered innocent people. He never abused woman. He never enslaved those who disagreed. He himself lived under oppressive Jewish and Roman rule and never started a religious war. He never began a political purging by violence and murder.
America was founded for the purpose of religious and political freedom and tolerance. Like many nations of the world that are run by religions that are violent our forefathers saw this and formed a nation that must not have a state sponsored religion. They also believed we must not hinder religion in any way whether private, political, or in public forums.
Today in America we face the unthinkable Christianity is slowly being legislated against till the free exercise of our Christianity is illegal. Our dissent with others on matters of evil behavior is viewed as hate speech. Those who preach tolerance are intolerant when it concerns Christian points of view. Only in Christian nations are people free to dissent and still be respected.
Christianity does not take up the sword. Its message is clear blessed are the peacemakers for they shall e called the children of God. When Peter a disciple of Jesus cut a man’s ear off Jesus responded by healing Him. Jesus said, He who lives by the sword will die by the sword. Christian nations who truly love and serve God have an army for protection only. The sword is to protect not to conquer. The God of the Old Testament is the same as the God of the New Testament. The wars we read about in scripture were because God was seeking to preserve the lives of the innocent against those who were the violent and utterly perverse of this world.
