GOD'S ANTIDOTE

by PASTOR SAL TERMINI

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

We are called to freedom and God has brought to mankind the antidote to the sicknesses of our souls.

Guilt
Guilt is when we know we have done evil and are expecting punishment. Guilt is the forerunner of fear. Guilt is healthy because when kept in perspective it will keep us from doing evil. Look what David wrote about healthy respect for God.

Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endures for ever.

Guilt comes when we ignore our sin that the Holy Spirit has been warming us of in our lives. Sin sears our tender consciences and desensitizes us to the Holy Spirit. We never want to shut off God’s conviction in our hearts and conscience by the Holy Spirit. Conviction is God warning us not to do evil. Guilt is expecting punishment. Conviction is meant to remove fear. Repentance removes fear. Obedience to God removes fear.

Fear
Fear is a terror of bad things happening to us. Satan’s entire kingdom works by fear of the bad things of this world happening to us. God’s kingdom works by faith believing God’s word the promises of good things will happen to us. We fear because our sins have separated us from God who is our only help and protection against the evil of this world. We fear the consequences of our actions. We know we cannot escape God’s punishment. God wants to replace our fears with faith. We trust in God’s forgiveness of our sins. We trust in God’s mercy to help us. We trust in God’s kindness to bless even though we have done wrong. Our God is amazing. David knew of God’s great love and forgiveness.

Psalms 103
Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all thy diseases;
4 Who redeems thy life from destruction; who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfies thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6 The LORD executes righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father that has pity on his children, so the LORD pities them that fear him.
14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
18 To such as keep his covenant and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
21 Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.
22 Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.

Apostle John also reveals how wonderful and therapeutic God’s love is for our soul.

1 John 4:18-18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Condemnation
Condemnation is knowing we deserve to be punished. We feel condemned separate from God’s love and mercy. We feel alone and separate from God’s help. We feel doomed to experience God’s anger. All this leads to an aversion to God. Like Adam we run away from God. We decide we want nothing to do with God. We become angry and even more alienated from God. Jesus came with His love to call us back to the love of God. Jesus came to remove forever condemnation. Jesus came with grace a kindness we do not deserve and cannot ever earn. It is love and the sacrificial death of Christ that will forever remove condemnation. We don’t have to run from God if we are willing to do something about it by getting rid of our sins and receive forgiveness. We cannot continue in sin and be free of condemnation.

Judgment
Judgment is the consequences the punishments promised in Gods word for sin. Our lives are filled with the consequences of our actions. One of the reason many of come to Christ is to have our consequences erased or fixed by God’s blessings. It will take God’s miracle power to get us out of the some of the messes we have created for ourselves. God in His mercy realizes some of our troubles came from Adam and Eve permitting evil into this world. God also knows of our human weaknesses and has mercy and pity on us. God knows the devil is tempting us to fail. He knows Satan is brining hardships and troubles into our lives at every turn. It is for this reason God records so many miracles in the Bible. God can do anything. He can rescue us no matter what our situation or condition. Miracles are proof of God’s power over evil. Miracles restore God’s will over Satan’s Miracles are God’s love overruling Satan’s evil intentions for our lives. Miracles is God’s love not just, I told you so. God is not in the vengeance business but the saving business. If we have faith in God’s love He will change many of our circumstances around. It may take some time but He will work it out. We must fully choose to serve God if want to experience His mighty delivering power.
