Daily Bread

by pastor Sal Termini

Give us this day our daily bread

1) God cares about our natural life - We must never think for a moment that the kingdom of God only pertains to spiritual things. The kingdom exists in both realms the natural as well as the spirit. In the past we thought neglect of the natural was spiritual. The spirit as well as the body are meant to be under the covenant blessings of God. The provision is for food, clothes, housing, and necessities of life. God does not want us to worry or fear. Unbelief about God’s generosity brings fear. Know the will of God and have peace.

Ps 37:25 –Ps 37:27 NKJV
I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.
He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forever more.

Mt 6:25 –Mt 6:33 NRSV
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

2) Prosperity is dependent upon our sowing - The prosperity of every individual depends upon the ability or desire of one to sow. We can increase financially by giving the tithe, offerings, taking care of the poor. Our prosperity is dependent upon our sowing.

Pr 3:9 –Pr 3:10 NKJV
Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

Dt 8:18 NRSV
But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors, as he is doing today.

2Co 9:6 –2Co 9:15 GWT
Remember this: The farmer who plants a few seeds will have a very small harvest. But the farmer who plants because he has received God’s blessings will receive a harvest of God’s blessings in return.
Each of you should give whatever you have decided. You shouldn’t be sorry that you gave or feel forced to give, since God loves a cheerful giver. Besides, God will give you his constantly overflowing kindness. Then, when you always have everything you need, you can do more and more good things. Scripture says, “The righteous person gives freely to the poor. His righteousness continues forever.” God gives seed to the farmer and food to those who need to eat. God will also give you seed and multiply it. In your lives he will increase the things you do that have his approval. God will make you rich enough so that you can always be generous. Your generosity will produce thanksgiving to God because of us. What you do to serve others not only provides for the needs of God’s people, but also produces more and more prayers of thanksgiving to God. You will honor God through this genuine act of service because of your commitment to spread the Good News of Christ and because of your generosity in sharing with them and everyone else. With deep affection they will pray for you because of the extreme kindness that God has shown you. I thank God for his gift that words cannot describe.

3) Balance Prosperity with the will of God - We are not striving to be millionaires but freely obedient to God’s will. God May need us at times to give when He commands. He will reward us for our obedience. Our life is meant to be generous sowers. We must also sow love, forgiveness, compassion, peace, joy, victory, prayer and finances. Blessed and content people give. There is a joy in blessing others and living fully in faith in God’s will. Faith is not just what we receive but the boldness to give when God commands.

1Ti 6:6 –1Ti 6:12 KJV But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

4) The bread of God is for Spirit, Soul, and Body - When sin entered the world it cursed the whole man. We need provision in every area of life. Provision is very much the will of God as our Father. If we truly want our needs met we must engage God in Prayer. Apostle James says, “We have not because we don’t ask.” God will not infringe on our will for blessing. We must ask God and then in faith receive what is promised. Apostle James also warns us, “Do not to be double minded because a double minded person will fail to receive from God.”

The Spirit of the Almighty LORD is with me because the LORD has anointed me to deliver-good news to humble people. He has sent me to heal those who are brokenhearted, to announce that captives will be set free and prisoners will be released. He has sent me to announce the year of the LORD’s good will and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all those who grieve. He has sent me to provide for all those who grieve in Zion, to give them crowns instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of tears of grief, and clothes of praise instead of a spirit of weakness. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the Plantings of the LORD, so that he might display his glory. They will rebuild the ancient ruins. They will restore the places destroyed long ago. They will renew the ruined cities, the places destroyed generations ago. Foreigners will come forward and become shepherds for your flock and children of foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. You will be called the priests of the LORD. You will be called the servants of our God. You will consume the wealth of the nations. You will boast in their splendor. You will receive a double measure of wealth instead of your shame. You will sing about your wealth instead of being disgraced. That is why you will have a double measure of wealth in your land. You will have everlasting joy. I, the LORD, love justice. I hate robbery and wrongdoing. I will faithfully reward my people’s work. I will make an everlasting promise to them. Then their offspring will be known among the nations and their descendants among the people. Everyone who sees them will recognize that they are the descendants whom the LORD has blessed. I will find joy in the LORD. I will delight in my God. He has dressed me in the clothes of salvation. He has wrapped me in the robe of righteousness like a bridegroom with a priest’s turban, like a bride with her jewels Like the ground that brings forth its crops and like a garden that makes the seed in it grow, so the Almighty LORD will make righteousness and praise  spring up in front of all nations.
