Authentic Christian Living

by Pastor Sal Termini

Gal 5:16 –Gal 5:25 GWT
Let me explain further. Live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your corrupt nature wants. What your corrupt nature wants is contrary to what your spiritual nature wants, and what your spiritual nature wants is contrary to what your corrupt nature wants. They are opposed to each other. As a result, you don’t always do what you intend to do. If your spiritual nature is your guide, you are not subject to Moses’ laws.
Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity, idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions, envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I’ve told you in the past and I’m telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their corrupt nature along with its passions and desires. If we live by our spiritual nature, then our lives need to conform to our spiritual nature.

Mt 12:33 –Mt 12:37 NRSV
“Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter; for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Authentic "Adjective" of undisputed origin; genuine :
• made or done in the original way, or in a way that faithfully resembles an original :
• based on facts; accurate or reliable : an authentic depiction of the situation.

Who are we? What defines us?

Authentic is an adjective which means it describes something. Can you describe yourself are you carnal or spiritual, Christ like or sinful, foolish or wise, worldly or holy.

God’s plan of salvation is to FIRST restore us to the image and likeness of God. Authentic living is not just an outward change of behavior but an inward change of heart.

God’s purposes vs, human purposes

We talk of power, success, achievements, blessings but God is interested in more He is interested in His character being formed in you.

It is only when His character is formed in you can all God’s blessing be used in a godly manner. I know powerful, successful, achievers who are blessed but sooner or later their blessing corrupt them. Satan defined himself by his beauty, and wisdom. He was eventually corrupted by pride and rebellion.

God’s word

God uses His word to change us it is the authentic accurate facts of who God is and what a Christlike character is. God defines what His nature is like.

The word is to transform our hearts to desire to be like God. True change is a heart change not an outward performance of what is right. If we do not desire holiness we are not authentic Christians. Apostle James would define authentic as

Jas 1:25 NKJV
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Pressure shows the weaknesses or the strengths of our character.

The devil seeks to define us and eventually destroy us through trials and temptations. The real you will manifest in trials. What is really inside us will manifest under pressure. You will be faithful or unfaithful, fearful or courageous, faith filled or unbelieving bitter or joyful. The devil wants to manifest His character through you. Jesus was tempted at all points like we were, His character manifested in godliness.

We are training for reigning.

We are in training to reign with Christ. To reign we need dominion. When Jesus said the kingdom was in you He meant more than the possession of power but also of nature.

A godly nature is the innate ability to act as defined by God’s word.

What nature is in you. What nature is in dominion. Is the nature of Christ reigning or is it the nature of the devil. Everything in life and in your future depends upon you perfecting your holiness. To whom much is given much is required.

Our future rewards depend upon our present ability to walk in godliness. Our reward depends upon our walking in this present age in truth and genuine love. The more our character reflects Christ the greater will be our reward.
