Some Things You Should Know About Jesus

by Pastor Sal Termini

He was born of a virgin –

Isa 7:14 GWT
So the Lord himself will give you this sign: A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and she will name him Immanuel [God Is With Us].

Lk 1:30 –Lk 1:34 NLT
“Don’t be frightened, Mary,” the angel told her, “For God has decided to bless you! You will become pregnant and have a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end! Mary asked the angel, “But how can I have a baby? I am a virgin.”

• The union of two human beings did not create Jesus. He was placed in the womb of Mary by God’s power. He existed as God before he entered the human race. He was born of a virgin so He would be free of the power of sin that controls our lives.

He always existed and created everything -

John 1:1-3 (NLT) 1In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. 2He was in the beginning with God.3He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn’t make.

Col 1:15 –Col 1:17 NLT
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together.

• The power to create the universe, the earth and all its majesty can only be attributed to God. The creation of humanity was a direct act of God. Jesus is revealed as the creator of the entire creation. He also created angels and mankind. Jesus is God the creator and will show Himself by His love for us also as God our redeemer.

He was sinless –

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

1Jn 3:5 NLT
And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, for there is no sin in him.

• Every religious leader was searching for God Jesus said He was God. He was not searching for God but said he Himself is the way the truth and the life. Every religious leader was searching for a way to be free of the evil within them Jesus was declared sinless by God, His disciples, and the testimony of His life. Only God is perfectly sinless and holy. Jesus as God has all the attributes as well as the character of God. The resurrection was proof of His sinless nature as His death paid for our sin. When that was accomplished God raised Him from the dead because he was sinless.

He forgave sins –

Mt 9:2 –Mt 9:6 NLT
Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Take heart, son! Your sins are forgiven.” “Blasphemy! This man talks like he is God!” some of the teachers of religious law said among themselves. Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why are you thinking such evil thoughts?
Is it easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or ‘Get up and walk’? I will prove that I, the Son of Man, have the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, take your mat, and go on home, because you are healed!”

• This is one of many instances where Jesus forgave peoples sins. The forgiveness of sin is exclusively the domain of God. Jesus declared His deity by forgiving sins. He still exercises that power today.

He exercised power over nature –

Lk 8:23 –Lk 8:25 NLT
On the way across, Jesus lay down for a nap, and while he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp them, and they were in real danger. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
So Jesus rebuked the wind and the raging waves. The storm stopped and all was calm!
Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” And they were filled with awe and amazement. They said to one another, “Who is this man, that even the winds and waves obey him?”

• The power of Jesus has no limit. He created the universe at his command and at His command the universe will obey Him. In the history of the world such mastery over nature has never been demonstrated. Another time he walked on water to come to the aid of His disciples. There is no obstacle that will stop Jesus from coming to our aid. If He has such power over nature surely He can help us in our time of need.

He claimed equality with God -

Jn 5:17 –Jn 5:18 NLT
But Jesus replied, “My Father never stops working, so why should I?” So the Jewish leaders tried all the more to kill him. In addition to disobeying the Sabbath rules, he had spoken of God as his Father, thereby making himself equal with God.

John 8:58 (GWT) 58Jesus told them, “I can guarantee this truth: Before Abraham was ever born, I am.”

• Jesus knew he was God and said so. He did it so people would believe in Him for all their needs and problems. He wanted people to believe as God He heard their cries and needs. He came to restore them back to God. He used the exact words God spoke to Moses demonstrating to the Jews he was God He called Himself I Am

He demonstrated God’s kingdom by miracles -

Mt 9:35 –Mt 9:36 NLT
Jesus traveled through all the cities and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And wherever he went, he healed people of every sort of disease and illness.
He felt great pity for the crowds that came, because their problems were so great and they didn’t know where to go for help. They were like sheep without a shepherd.

• The apostle John tells us if all the miracles Jesus did were recorded there would not be enough books in the world to contain them. He proved He was the Lord of creation. He was demonstrating God’s perfect will that would come through Him. He was showing them a world to come that is the destiny of God’s people.

He will return to judge the living and the dead -

Jn 5:22 –Jn 5:24 GWT
“The Father doesn’t judge anyone. He has entrusted judgment entirely to the Son so that everyone will honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent him. I can guarantee this truth: Those who listen to what I say and believe in the one who sent me will have eternal life. They won’t be judged because they have already passed from death to life.

Mt 24:30 –Mt 24:31 GWT
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. All the people on earth will cry in agony when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds in the sky with power and great glory. He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and from every direction under the sky, they will gather those whom God has chosen.

• Jesus will decide if we go to heaven or remain separate from God for our sins in hell. We must accept Him as Lord and savior to pass from death to life. We must commit to learn more about God and learn to live for Him.
